Cambodian Senate President Commemorates 49th Anniversary of One-Eyed Injury, Calls for Peacekeeping

Phnom Penh: Today, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the former Prime Minister of Cambodia and current President of the Senate, solemnly commemorated the 49th anniversary of a grave tragedy that left him blind in one eye. The incident occurred on April 16, 1975, during the war.

At the age of 23, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, revered by Cambodians as a key figure in Cambodia's peace efforts, recounted the fateful day when he lost his left eye, lamenting its loss due to the ravages of war.

"On his Facebook page, Samdech Techo Hun Sen recounted, 'At that time, I was unconscious, and after several days, upon awakening, I realized that my left eye was blind, and my right eye's vision was impaired.'"

Despite enduring personal hardships, Samdech Techo Hun Sen shared his commitment to national unity, territorial integrity, and the pursuit of peace, reflecting on his journey from a warrior to a peacemaker.

In his message, Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasized the importance of peacekeeping efforts and highlighted peace as a source of joy for the people, particularly during the ongoing New Year celebrations.
